The Snap That Makes or Breaks a Bodysuit (Literally)

Bodysuit Series·Manufacturing guide

Of every hardware decision in the Family 01 jersey catalogue, none matters more than the snap on a bodysuit. Get it wrong, and it's the most common quality complaint across every price tier — a snap that pops open is an immediate, visible, embarrassing failure.

A light press stud will fail under the tension of a bodysuit in wear.

Why standard press studs aren't enough

A bodysuit's crotch snap holds under real tension every time the wearer sits, bends, or moves — nothing like the light closure duty a press stud handles on a cardigan or shirt placket. A snap rated below the threshold will click open under exactly the kind of movement a bodysuit sees constantly.

Snap typePull forceRecommendation
Light press stud (standard)5–8NNOT recommended — will fail in wear
KAM snap (heavy-duty plastic)12–18NMinimum commercial standard
Metal KAM snap (heavy-duty)15–20NPremium — gold/silver/black

Worth knowing

Specify KAM or equivalent by name on the tech pack — minimum 15N pull force, three snaps as the commercial default. Don't leave snap selection to the factory's default, since a light press stud looks identical to a heavy-duty snap until it's tested under load.

How to verify before bulk

Apply 15N lateral force to each snap on the sample — it must not open. This is a five-minute test that catches the single most common bodysuit failure mode before it reaches 300 units of production.

The takeaway

The snap is the cheapest hardware decision in the entire bodysuit build and the most consequential if it's wrong. Specify by name, test before bulk, and never accept a substitution to save fractions of a cent per unit.
